The Olive Branch of Hope based in Toronto Canada celebrated 10 years of providing Cancer support services to the community and hosted its Diamond Anniversary gala in April. The feature guest speaker for this grand celebration was none other than Alicia Powell a.k.a. Miss Basia. This special group of Canadian survivors heard of Miss Basia and her efforts in the fight against Breast Cancer subsequent to the Caribbean Leading Ladies Conference hosted by Alicia and the Basia Survivor Network in Barbados in January 2011. The Olive Branch of Hope expressed much excitement at having Alicia as their honourary guest, representing strong black women all over the Caribbean and the world as a living example that Breast Cancer is treatable and is beatable!

The Beat Breast Cancer Music Festival was the first of its kind in the Caribbean. What was only a dream conceived by Alicia Powell popular talk show host became a reality on October 31st 2010 at the Queen’s Part Savannah. Having been diagnosed with Breast Cancer in August 2009, Alicia felt the need to reach out to Caribbean women by forming the Basia Survivor Network and hosting a fund raising concert unlike any other ever seen, to raise funds for CT/PET scans and reconstructive surgeries to aid Caribbean women in their fight against breast cancer.
