First Citizens and The Basia Foundation are once again hosting The Beat Breast Cancer Music Festival to raise funds for women living with breast cancer. What started off as a support group for women in 2009 has now turned into an annual charity event unlike any other.

In 2009 Alicia Powell, also known as Miss Basia, popular celebrity talk show host of The Basia Show was diagnosed with breast cancer and made public her journey. Inspired to give back to the Caribbean she began a cancer support group entitled the Basia Survivor Network providing emotional support, information and financial assistance to breast cancer survivors within her network. In an aim to do more she also developed the Beat Breast Cancer Music Festival which is proudly now in its second year.

With title sponsor First Citizens leading the platform, the Basia Survivor Network is poised to host the Caribbean Charity event of the year. With Headline acts Machel Montano and Maxi Priest it promises to be an event to remember on June 26 2011 at the Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain (the paddock). Repeat sponsors bmobile, Guardian Life of the Caribbean Limited and Toyota have also pledged their continued support to the successful hosting of this event. Hyatt Regency Trinidad hotel and Citadel Limited have also come forward with much needed and appreciated assistance.

The theme of the event this year is A Retro Party and entertainers include Fay-Ann Lyons, Bunji Garlin, 3Canal, Ravi B, Kevin Lyttle and many more. Ticket prices start at $250 for General Admission and $600 for All Inclusive and are available at bmobile outlets, Stetchers, Sports and Games and Superpharm outlets. All proceeds for this event go towards charity as the Foundation aims to fulfill its mandate of providing CT/PET scans and reconstructive surgeries for its members.

The 2011 campaign has added the special colour of purple as this year we want to represent men by bringing greater awareness of prostate cancer. As such, we invite patrons to wear the colours fuchsia, white or purple to the Beat Breast Cancer Music Festival to identify with our cause.

The Beat Breast Cancer Music Festival is here to stay and as usual we will be doing it…Basia style!
